We are thrilled to welcome three outstanding individuals to the Crop Bioengineering Center: Erica Unger-Wallace and Josh Strable from GDCB, and Walter Suza from Agronomy. Their expertise and passion for advancing agricultural science will be invaluable as we continue to innovate and drive progress in crop bioengineering.
Dr. Erica Unger Wallace works in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University. Her research focuses on studying processes involved in maize reproduction and development using tools of molecular, cellular and developmental biology and genetics.
Dr. Josh Strable has joined the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University in January 2025 as a tenure-eligible assistant professor. His research program combines classical approaches with cutting-edge methods and technologies to understand genetic mechanisms that underlie organ development in cereal crops.
Dr. Walter Suza is a George Washington Carver Endowed Chair and Adjunct Associate Professor at Iowa State University. Suza teaches courses on genetics and crop physiology for agronomy majors. His research focuses on understanding how sterol metabolism is regulated in plants.
We are excited to have them join the CBC and look forward to their contributions and collaborative efforts in tackling global agricultural challenges. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Erica, Josh, and Walter!
