She established her research on plant grafting and long-distance signaling while she was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (2014-2018), before moving to Cornell University, where she is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science.

The Frank lab uses grafting to identify long-distance signals that impact molecular, morphological, and physiological plant traits of agronomic importance. Margaret has received multiple awards that support the development of innovative new approaches for sustainable crop production. She is a recipient of the FFAR New Innovator in Food and Agriculture Award (2022), an NSF CAREER Award (2020), and “Innovation and Tool Development” Award from the United Soybean Board (2018). Margaret is also a co-PI on the NSF Science and Technology Center for Research on Programmable Plant Systems (CROPPS).
