Spring Seminar: Guest speaker Dr. Dipali Sashital - Jan 29th, 12-1:00pm
Talk title: “Cellular conditions shape CRISPR-Cas specificity and mechanism”
Dipali Sashital is the Roy J. Carver Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University. She earned her bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley and The Scripps Research Institute. Dr. Sashital’s research investigates the molecular mechanisms by which CRISPR-Cas immune systems recognize and respond to invading genetic elements. Her group combines structural, biochemical, and molecular biology approaches to uncover how these systems operate in their native contexts and how they can be used safely and effectively for biotechnology applications. In addition to advancing fundamental understanding of RNA-mediated immunity, her work contributes to the broader application of CRISPR in agriculture and human health.
Note that this week's seminar is on a Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday!
